In fact, single spins can be manipulated with gate fidelities far exceeding the threshold for quantum error correction. The research in our group seeks to understand how best to operate electrons as <a href=\"https:\/\/labsites.rochester.edu\/nicholgroup\/research\/quantum-computing-with-electrons\/\">qubits<\/a>, investigate the <a href=\"https:\/\/labsites.rochester.edu\/nicholgroup\/research\/noise-in-spin-qubits\/\">noise processes<\/a> that affect these qubits, <a href=\"https:\/\/labsites.rochester.edu\/nicholgroup\/research\/long-distance-coherent-coupling\/\">transfer information<\/a> between them, explore how <a href=\"https:\/\/labsites.rochester.edu\/nicholgroup\/research\/heat-and-energy-in-nanoscale-devices\/\">heat and energy<\/a> flow in these devices, and develop novel <a href=\"https:\/\/labsites.rochester.edu\/nicholgroup\/research\/hybrid-quantum-systems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hybrid quantum<\/a> devices.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the following review articles that summarize some of our research themes:<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Individual electron spins in solid state systems can retain their quantum phase coherence for long times, making them attractive qubits.
