[<strong>74<\/strong>, 9, 42 (2021);\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__doi.org_10.1063_PT.3.4835&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=kbmfwr1Yojg42sGEpaQh5ofMHBeTl9EI2eaqQZhHbOU&amp;r=HlWSZS13x0XGQ9V79HRjhRfHHb_Q-YKi4Sn6ykl_Dq4&amp;m=HA498I14DjLQPqqRIMk0Tg5Z7e4u0PqR8X3x1WT7VW4&amp;s=Hd1oN4LigJ6_I650FpOX5v_hGXKnhSrDzhBpsPNK494&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1063\/PT.3.4835<\/a>] Manuel started advancing the field of ptychography here during his PhD thesis research in 2008. A couple of years earlier Manuel won the International Commission for Optics (ICO) Prize for his work (see below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">November 2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Former group member Manuel Guizar-Sicairos was named the recipient of the International Commission for Optics (ICO) Prize for 2019 for making \u201cseminal contributions to method and algorithm development, and application of coherent lensless imaging, ptychography, x-ray nanotomography, and scanning small-angle x-ray scattering.\u201d Click <a href=\"http:\/\/e-ico.org\/activities\/awards#ico2\">here<\/a> for more information about the prize and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/optics\/news-events\/news\/2019-11-26_news-guizar-sicairos-ico-prize.html\">here<\/a> for a more complete story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<em>September, 2019<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Fienup was awarded  the University of Rochester Hajim School of Engineering &amp; Applied Sciences 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of distinguished achievement in Research, Education and Leadership. Click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/news\/2019\/2019-09-05-fienup-lifetime.html\">here<\/a> for story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scott Will received a $500 travel grant to attend the 2019 Optical Society (OSA) Frontiers in Optics (FiO) conference, where he was a finalist in the Emil Wolf Outstanding Student Paper Competition for his paper, \u201cUnderstanding polarization aberrations in the LUVOIR coronagraph instrument.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/optics\/news-events\/news\/2019-06-04-fienup-algorithms.html\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<em>June&nbsp;4, 2019<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>James Webb Space Telescope will rely on Fienup\u2019s algorithms to see clearly.<br>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/optics\/news-events\/news\/2019-06-04-fienup-algorithms.html\">here<\/a> for story.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hajim.rochester.edu\/optics\/news-events\/news\/2019-06-04-fienup-algorithms.html\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">August \u2013 September 2017<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students Scott Paine and Matt Bergkoetter spent a month at NASA\u2019s \nJohnson Space Center  in Houston, Texas, helping with the final cryo-vac\n testing of the James Webb Space Telescope. They survived hurricane \nHarvey unscathed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">May 2005<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>NASA announced the award to Matt Bolcar of a 2005 <a href=\"http:\/\/fellowships.hq.nasa.gov\/gsrp\/nav\/\">Graduate Student Researchers Program<\/a>\n (GSRP) fellowship.
